Genetics &
Rare Diagnoses

I have a strong passion for genetics and its link to Attachment Psychotherapy. My past work experience as a Genetic Counsellor in the NHS has included working with individuals, couples, and families for over 9 years in London, UK.  My knowledge and experience of genetic conditions, family dynamics, clinical research and trials, and inheritance is an asset as a therapist.

Together we can explore:

  • Your genetic diagnosis

  • Your partner or child's genetic diagnosis

  • A genetic diagnosis in your family

  • Complex medical needs and their impact

  • Different roles including care giving

  • Impact of inheritance and survivor guilt

  • Family planning (prenatal diagnosis, IVF, PGD, surrogacy)

I am experienced in providing therapy to clients with a genetic condition and I understand the complexities this can bring. My experience includes:

  • Clients with a family history of Huntington's Disease.

  • Short term work with adults with a diagnosis of Bardet-Biedl Syndrome (BBS).

  • Long term therapy to parents of a child with complex medical needs including:

    • Cystic Fibrosis (CF)

    • Batten's disease

    • Life limiting conditions

I have a special interest in Hereditary cancers (BRCA, Lynch Syndrome, etc) and have experience of managing clinical trials and research in the NHS.

Through my work on clinical research and trials, I have years of experience of working with Huntington's Disease families in Enroll-HD, and Legato-HD. I am humbled to utilise this experience in my role as a therapist and support you on your journey. I have also worked over the years with the HDA, who provide valuable advice and support to those affected by Huntington's Disease.

*Disclaimer: I am not a practicing genetic counsellor and will not be providing genetic counselling services.
