About Uruj
I’m Uruj Anjum, a psychotherapist, supervisor, lecturer, and former NHS genetic counsellor

My work is grounded in both clinical experience and research.
Before training as a psychotherapist, I spent nearly a decade working in NHS clinical genetics, supporting individuals and families navigating complex diagnoses, uncertainty, life-changing decisions, and conducting research.
Over time, I became increasingly aware that what people were carrying was more than medical.
It was emotional.
It was relational.
It was psychologically profound.
Beneath the language of risk, results, and testing were often deeper experiences of grief, identity, uncertainty, and change.
That understanding led me into psychotherapy. Today, my work brings together genetics, attachment, and relational psychotherapy to offer research-informed support that recognises both the clinical and emotional impact of inherited risk, reproductive decision-making, loss, and identity.
My approach is grounded in cultural humility. I recognise that our stories are shaped by culture, migration, faith, family roles, and intergenerational experiences. I remain curious, allowing space for your unique context to be understood in your own words.
Alongside my clinical work, I teach and supervise counsellors, helping them feel more confident when genetics enters the therapy room.
